OSHA 5039 - Cal/OSHA Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers

This course updates the OSHA 5119 - Cal/OSHA Standards for General Industry. Students will learn about the most significant changes within Cal/OSHA Title 8 that affect general industry. Course topics include updates on the Cal/OSHA strategic plan, enforcement and consultation, procedural changes, new and proposed Cal/OSHA Standards as they relate to general industry, navigation of the Cal/OSHA Web site, and availability of publications and resources. This course continues the student's authorization to teach both the 10- and 30-hour Cal/OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Program. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify recent changes and updates to Cal/OSHA structure, general standards, and legal decisions affecting general industry.

- A copy of your Cal/OSHA Outreach Trainer Card
- A copy of your current Federal Outreach Trainer Card
- Email to oshatraining@ucsd.edu.
Cal/OSHA Expiration: This endorsement authorization expires on the same date as the Federal OSHA Outreach Trainer expiration.
IMPORTANT: Allow 10 business days for processing of submitted documentation. Prerequisite Verification Forms are being reviewed and processed based on the start date of the applicant’s selection.
Course Information
Additionally, if you are a current Outreach Trainer with UCSD, regardless of your residence, you are still eligible to attend a Trainer Update Course (OSHA 502, OSHA 503, OSHA 5402).

Instructor: Ryan Martinez
After leaving the service, he worked for multiple safety and health companies as a consultant, traveling the world interfacing with hundreds of clients and thousands of students, performing audits, inspections, training events, and developing resources for clients ranging from Disney, Genentech, AECOM, and P&G.
While working as a consultant, Ryan completed his MBA from the University of Southern California and specialized in corporate strategy and adult education.
In 2015, he founded Surge Consultant Group, which specializes in safety program development, training consultation, and plan review. A few notable clients include Netflix, Paramount Pictures, and the State of California.
He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Instructor: John Marsden, CHST, COSS, CET
John has instructed health and safety classes for over 15 years to a wide range of construction crafts all over the country.
John Marsden has been with the UC San Diego OSHA Training Institute Education Center since 2013. He teaches the Safety Leadership courses and OSHA standards and trainer courses.
John's career includes over 20 years as a union steamfitter. He worked mostly as HVAC assistant service manager for 3 different companies over 15 years. Additionally, John is a Nuclear trained Submarine qualified U.S. Navy veteran.
He taught for 20 years as an apprenticeship and journeyman for United Association District Council 16. He also instructed safety and health for United Association as a Master Safety Instructor. John is the owner and lead instructor of Marsden Master Safety Training.
John is a certified Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and a Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) as well as being a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) and Certified Occupational Safety Manager (COSM). John is a NESHA Master Instructor and Master Safety Professional. He has held a California vocational state teaching credential.

Instructor: Charles Geraci
Charles Geraci works for the Pfizer La Jolla R&D site as the Regional Security and Business Protection Lead along with his EHS responsibilities. Charles has over 30 years of professional experience in the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) field and received his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Sciences from Indiana University of PA. Charles also has numerous Safety and Business Continuity certifications. He has been an instructor for the OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) for over 10 years with his focus courses being the OSHA 511, 5119, and 501 Outreach Instructor Class. Charles is a very passionate instructor who wishes to impart his EHS wisdom to his students taking his courses.
