Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program
Strengthen Your Path to Medical School
Program at a Glance
Designed for Aspiring Medical Students
Tailored to first‑time applicants and re‑applicants who have completed their prerequisites but want to strengthen their academic record, MCAT readiness, and med‑school competitiveness in a supportive, cohort‑based environment.
Rigorous, Med‑Focused Curriculum
Students complete ~48 units of upper‑division biological sciences across four quarters, including physiology, biochemistry, neurology, molecular medicine, and cohort‑based foundational courses. MCAT prep is integrated throughout the program.
One‑on‑One Mentorship & Peer Community
Each student receives dedicated advising from UC San Diego School of Medicine faculty, tutoring when needed, office hours, and a close‑knit peer cohort that reinforces learning and professional development.
GPA Benchmark & Program Recognition
Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA to remain enrolled. Graduates who meet this standard receive a detailed letter of recommendation and a certificate of completion — strong enhancements to medical school applications.
Structured Application & MCAT Support
The program builds med‑school readiness with workshops on personal statements, mock interviews, application strategy, and both in‑person and online MCAT prep sessions. Graduates apply to medical school when their portfolios are strongest.
Academic Calendar & Structure
Follows the UC quarter system — orientation in late June, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters, concluding mid‑June. Advising, tutoring, coursework, and workshops run throughout the year.
Unrivaled Inclusive Excellence
The Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program has been awarded for being a champion of equity, diversity, and inclusion at UC San Diego.
All programs and initiatives coordinated by UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies and its units are designed and implemented in full compliance with Proposition 209 and the University of California Anti-Discrimination Policy.
