About Us

UC San Diego OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) is part of UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies, which has served as a premier source of lifelong learning for adults seeking professional and personal growth for nearly five decades. Today, UC San Diego Extended Studies educates more than 80,000 professionals annually through over 4,600 courses and more than 80 certificate programs, including the multi-track Professional Safety and Health Officer (PSHO) Certificate Program.

Since 1992, when it was selected as one of the original four OSHA Training Institute Education Centers by the U.S. Department of Labor, the UC San Diego OTIEC has consistently delivered high-quality, innovative training in occupational safety and health. Our programs are grounded in OSHA standards and tailored to meet the evolving needs of Construction, General Industry, and Maritime industry professionals.

In addition to the core OSHA-authorized courses, our Occupational Safety and Health Department offers a wide range of specialized training in safety inspections, fire and life safety, EM 385-1-1 compliance, workers’ compensation, and safety leadership, among other critical areas.

Our instructors are highly qualified professionals with extensive field experience who bring OSHA standards to life with real-world application. Students leave our programs equipped to confidently apply what they’ve learned to improve workplace safety and compliance.

As of September 1, 2024, OSHA’s Regions 9 and 10 officially merged and were renamed as OSHA's San Francisco Region, expanding the UC San Diego OTI Education Center's ability to serve a broader West Coast and Pacific jurisdiction. This realignment aims to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs while providing enhanced support to more states.

The San Francisco Region now includes: Alaska, Arizona, American Samoa, California, Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington—with Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington newly added to the UC San Diego OTIEC’s coverage.

In addition, prospective students in these newly included states are now eligible to attend Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) classes at UC San Diego, bringing accessible, high-quality OSHA training directly to their doorsteps.
