Students should take this course ONLY if they have taken OSHA 2264 or have sufficient Confined Space Entry experience/training to be considered competent in the subject.

What you'll learn

The course will cover advanced confined space issues, teaching, resources, instructional methodology and points on how to jazz up your presentation.

Students will be required to give a ten minute presentation for evaluation by other students. If possible bring laptop, material and equipment for class presentation.

Note:

Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) classes are overseen with the same guidelines & policies as in-person offerings. Per OSHA guidelines, students are required to have video capabilities and must be visible at all times.If a student cannot comply with this requirement they will not be able to attend class. Instructor: John Marsden, CHST, COSS, CET, CIT, CESCP

John Marsden, CHST, COSS, CET, CIT, CESCP

John has instructed health and safety classes for over 15 years to a wide range of construction crafts all over the country.

John Marsden has been with the UC San Diego OSHA Training Institute Education Center since 2013. He teaches the Safety Leadership courses and OSHA standards and trainer courses.

John Marsden is the owner and lead instructor for Marsden Master Safety Training. He is a nuclear trained Submarine qualified U.S. Navy veteran. He has a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University in environmental technologies. He is a journeyman steamfitter. 

He teaches for the UC San Diego Extended Studies OSHA Training Institute Education Center, and Alliance Safety Council. He has been a safety curriculum developer for many organizations for over 25 years including Click Safety. He is a certified COSS & COSM instructor. He also is an outreach instructor in construction and general industry. He was a Master OSHA instructor from the National Resource Training Center for over ten years. John has instructed health and safety classes since 2000.

John has taught safety classes for a wide range of construction & general industry crafts all over the country for Marsden Master Safety Training, The United Association, The Center for Construction Research & Training, UCSD OTI and others. He taught apprenticeship and journeyman classes for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 230 for 20 years. He has over twenty years’ experience in HVAC piping industry.  He also taught in Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Mexico.

John is actively involved in Scouts BSA. He is an assistant scoutmaster in brother & sister troops. He is actively involved in both the District and Council level. He proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1983. He completed wood badge leadership training in 2016 and Philmont Leadership Challenge in 2023. He has served on staff for safety 2017, 2023 & 2026 National Jamboree and 2019 World Jamboree.
