OSHA 7100 - Introduction to Machinery and Machine Safeguarding

This course covers the process to identify, select and properly safeguard machinery to protect employees and others in the work area and deliver appropriate training in safe work practices. Course topics include types of machinery requiring guarding, point of operation, emergency eyewash/shower requirements, hazard communication, OSHA Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards violations, and corrective actions. Upon course completion students will have the ability to explain hazardous actions and motions of various types of machinery, identify methods of safeguarding, and match identified safeguards with the applicable OSHA Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards to reduce and eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries.

Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) classes are overseen with the same guidelines & policies as in-person offerings. Per OSHA guidelines, students are required to have video capabilities and must be visible at all times.If a student cannot comply with this requirement they will not be able to attend class. Students are required to attend all days/times to receive a completion certificate and/or trainer card and must participate via computer. Phones & tablets are not allowed. Dates: 8/28/25

Tim’s career in safety began 30 years ago as a marine in Operation Desert Storm, helping put out oil fires. After leaving the military, Tim became a full-time safety professional, eventually achieving CSP designation. He also received the prestigious Safety Professional of the Year award from the ASSP.

Tim is a Senior Consultant for SafeStart, is the CEO of Total Safety Compliance and Lectures for UMGC Global Campus

Tim has had numerous articles published in various magazines including Professional Safety, The Journal of Environmental Management, Safety and Health Magazine and OSHA's Very Own Leader Magazine.

Tim is also the author of, “Safety Health and Security in Wastewater Systems” published by the Water Environment Federation, and he is the author of the “Core of Four”, a motivational book to improve human performance.

Tim is a very engaging and entertaining speaker and trainer. He has been voted as a top 10 Speaker by the National Safety Council where he was awarded the Distinguished Service to Safety Award.
