OSHA 5402 - Maritime Industry Trainer Update Course

This course is designed for individuals who have successfully completed OSHA course #5400 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry and are active Outreach Training Program trainers.

 

 

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

The course updates the OSHA Maritime standards, policies, and regulations.

Upon course completion students will have the ability to demonstrate continued professional development in their field by applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define and explain maritime industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training Program classes.

 

REQUIRED PREREQUISITES

OSHA 5400 or OSHA 5402 course within four (4) years

  • The completed Prerequisite Verification Form

  • A copy of your OSHA authorized trainer card

  • Email to oshatraining@ucsd.edu.

IMPORTANT: Allow 10 business days for processing of submitted documentation. Prerequisite Verification Forms are being reviewed and processed based on the start date of the applicant’s selection.

Notes: Beginning September 1, 2024, the VILT (Virtual Instructor Led Training) classes at the UC San Diego OTIEC are available to anyone who lives or works in the newly realigned OSHA San Francisco Region: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Additionally, if you are a current Outreach Trainer with UC San Diego, regardless of your residence, you are still eligible to attend a Trainer Update Course (OSHA 502, OSHA 503, OSHA 5402).

Note:

Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) classes are overseen with the same guidelines & policies as in-person offerings. Per OSHA guidelines, students are required to have video capabilities and must be visible at all times.If a student cannot comply with this requirement they will not be able to attend class. Students are required to attend all days/times to receive a completion certificate and/or trainer card and must participate via computer. Phones & tablets are not allowed. Dates: 10/6/25-10/8/25
