How to Apply
Minimum Age Requirement
You must be 18 years old to enroll in our international programs. Seventeen-year-old students may be admitted when accompanied by an adult guardian and when the parents submit a letter attesting to the student's maturity. For more information, please contact ipadmission@ucsd.edu.

Transfer Students
Submit the Academic Verification Form. Please email ipadmission@ucsd.edu for ay questions.
Application Fees:Paying an application fee does not guarantee admission or conditional admission to any program.Your acceptance to a program depends on the space available in the program, your qualifications for admission to the program, and the time we have available to process your application and issue your acceptance materials. For more information about application fees, please contact ipinfo@ucsd.edu.
When to Apply
It is best to apply 12-16 weeks before the program start-date to allow enough time for us to process your application and for you to make your visa and travel arrangements.
Please do not arrange student visa interviews, housing, and flights until you have received an official letter of acceptance and/or received your I-20.
Certificates
Certificates with the UC San Diego university seal are awarded upon successful completion of your programs. Excellent attendance is an important part of certificate eligibility in all programs.

Payment
Transact Information and Instructions
Transact is a payment platform which allows international students, their families, and sponsors to securely pay tuition and fees. Through Transact, there are four ways to pay:
- Credit or Debit Card
- Bank Transfer
- Flywire
- Convera
Getting Started
- An invoice will be sent to the authorized email address on the student application.
- After the invoice is received, click on the link located on page 2 of the invoice to make a secure payment through Transact*.

Entering Payment Information
- Payment [Review invoice and enter payment amount]
- Payment by Agent or Student [Select one option from the dropdown]
- Enter Payer Information [First Name and Last Name]
- Enter Payer Email Address
- Enter the information for the student you are paying for below [Student’s full name as it appears in their passport and Student ID Number (U followed by 8 digits)]
- Enter the contact person for the payment below [Contact Name and Email Address]
- Add to Cart [Confirm amount of payment by selecting, Continue.]

Select Credit/Debit Card or International Payment
Option 1: Credit or Debit Card**
Transact accepts American Express, Discover, JCB, UnionPay, Mastercard, and Visa**
- Enter card information [Credit/Debit Card Number, Expiration Date, Security Code (CVV), Zip/Postal Code (int’l cardholders can put “N/A”)].
- Select Continue.
- Summary page [Review that information is correct, then select Pay.]
- Transact service fee included in total amount.
- The transaction receipt will be emailed to the payer email address provided.
Option 2: International Payment*
Please select:
- What country are you paying from?
- Select one International payment option [Bank Transfer, Flywire, or Convera]
Option 2a: Bank Transfer*
- Enter the following information:
- Student information [Name as it appears in student’s passport, phone number, email address, date of birth
- Student’s current address [Country, Street Address, City, State/Province, Zip/Postal Code]
- Payer information [Email, First name, Family name, Address, City, State/Province/Region, Zip/Postal code, Phone number].
- Check box: I have read, understand, and agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- Select Continue.
- Summary Page [Review that the information entered is correct, then select Continue.]
- Print bank wire instructions and arrange a bank transfer to the TransferMate Bank Account listed in the bank wire instructions within 48 hours.
Option 2b: Flywire*
If Flywire is selected, the Transact site will redirect to the Flywire site. (Flywire site translates into 10 additional languages besides English)
- Your payment [Country or region where payment will come from]
- Select Next.
- Select your preferred payment method
- Payer information [Email, First Name, Family Name, Address, City, State/Province/Region, Zip/Postal code, Phone Number]
- Check box: I have read, understand, and agree to the Flywire Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
- Select Next.
- Student Information [Date of Birth, Email Address, Student ID (PID) – (U followed by 8 digits)]
- Summary Page [Review that the information entered is correct, then select Next.]
- Print bank wire instructions and arrange a bank transfer to the bank account listed in the bank wire instructions within 72-hours or by the date provided on the payment instructions.
Option 2c: Convera*
If Convera is selected, the Transact site will redirect to the Convera site. (Convera site translates into 10 additional languages besides English)
- Paying fees from [Country or region where payment will come from].
- Select Get a quote.
- Select your preferred payment method.
- Student’s Details [IMPORTANT: This page cannot be edited and pulls the student details directly from Transact]
- Select Next.
- Payer’s Details
- Who will be making the payment? [Choose one option]
- What is your relationship to the student? [Choose one option]
- Payer’s Personal Details [Name, Email address, Billing address, City, Province or Territory, Zip/Postal Code]
- Payer’s Bank Details [Bank name, Bank Address, Bank Account Number, Bank Address, Bank City, Bank Province or Territory, Bank zip/postal code]
- Additional Information Requested (optional)
- Check box: I have read, understand, and agree to the Terms of Use and have reviewed the Online Privacy Statement
- Proceed to Payment
- Print bank wire instructions and arrange a bank transfer to the bank account listed in the bank wire instructions within 72-hours or by the date provided on the payment instructions.
* Important: Payment will not be applied until funds are verified.
** Most credit/debit cards have a daily limit which an individual is allowed to charge. Always check with your credit card company or bank about your daily charge limit before trying to submit your payment through Transact.
Medical Insurance
UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies medical insurance is MANDATORY for all students. The cost for UC San Diego Medical Insurance will be:

- 2-week programs: $110
- 4-week programs: $220
- 8-week ELI: $550
- University and Professional Studies (UPS): $ 715 per quarter
- Certificate Programs - 1 quarter: $715
- Certificate Programs - 2 quarters: $1,430
- Certificate Programs - 3 quarters: $2,145

- 4-week programs: $240
- 8-week ELI: $600
- University and Professional Studies (UPS): $ 780 per quarter
- Certificate Programs - 1 quarter: $780
- Certificate Programs - 2 quarters: $1,560
- Certificate Programs - 3 quarters: $2,340
UC San Diego Medical Insurance Coverage:
- Unlimited coverage for medically necessary health care, including pre-existing conditions and mental health care
- Unlimited coverage for medical evacuation
- Unlimited coverage for repatriation of remains
- 100% coverage for all medical care after the $100 USD deductible per person, per policy year
- 100% coverage for prescription drugs after payment of the required co-payments for each prescription. Co-payments are from $10 to $50 per prescription.
The UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies medical insurance policy for international students covers hospitalization and other medical expenses, with some exceptions, but not dental or eye care. Medical insurance is non-refundable. For information on this requirement, contact our staff at deshealthandsafety@ucsd.edu.
NOTE: In December there is a gap in insurance coverage between academic quarters. UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies medical insurance coverage ends one week after each quarter’s end date. In December, there is a period when you will have no insurance coverage unless you purchase additional coverage. If you are a student continuing from fall to winter quarter, you must purchase extra UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies medical insurance for the gap weeks between your fall and winter programs. You must pay for this insurance during the scheduled continuing registration times at the end of the quarter.
TB Assessment and Immunization Form
A Tuberculosis (TB) Assessment and proof of immunizations against common diseases are required by UC San Diego for international students who will participate in our international programs. The Student Health and Welfare Advisor will send instructions and details to each student, after the student is accepted into his/her program. Questions? Please email deshealthanddsafety@ucsd.edu.
