Writing for Children I: Introduction

Have you ever told yourself that someday you will write a children's book? Now's your chance!
Join us as we demystify the writing process and examine the wide variety of books offered to children: picture books, easy readers, early chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, children's magazines, fiction and nonfiction. If you want to write for children but don't know where to start, this course is for you. It reveals the best way to choose an idea, how to benefit from critique to improve your revisions, and how to write a catchy query letter or intriguing cover letter to capture an editor's attention. Tips for marketing your work, when it's ready, will also be offered.

Sarah Tomp teaches Writing for Children I: Introduction and Writing for Children II: Intermediate for the Children's Book Writing program. Sarah is the author of "My Best Everything," and, upcoming, "The Easy Part of Impossible," novels for young adults as well as "Red, White and Blue Good-Bye," a picture book. Her work has also appeared in Highlights Magazine for Children. Tomp holds an MFA in writing for children and young adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is an active member of SCBWI.
