Translation and Interpretation in Education

This course provides an overview of translation and interpretation (T&I) in educational settings. Students will learn about the role of the interpreter/translator, ethical considerations, and the laws governing T&I in education. Education-specific vocabulary and acronyms will be presented, explained, and reviewed in class. Students will also participate in hands-on practice with specialized, education-related materials to build skills in translation, sight translation, consecutive, and simultaneous interpreting.

Kathy Figueroa teaches Consecutive Interpretation, Simultenous Intepretation, Theory & Practice of Interpretation, and Introduction to Translation for the Translation certificate and Translation & Interpretation certificate programs. 

Kathy is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. Currently working as a translator and interpreter for the San Diego Unified School District, she has been an interpreter/translator since 2002 and an educator since 1994.
