Attracting Top Talent: Essential Skills for Hiring
Talent acquisition is the process of finding, attracting, and acquiring competent and proficient human labor to meet the department & organizational work requirements, with the constant eye on ensuring the business meets its strategic goals. Modern talent acquisition is a strategic function of an organization, encompassing talent procurement, but also workforce planning functions such as organizational talent forecasting, talent pipelining, and strategic talent assessment and development. Whether your business is small, medium, or large, attracting and hiring top talent is critical to your organization’s success.
During this course you will learn the fundamentals to attracting, sourcing, hiring, and onboarding new talent, along with the emerging trends, including AI, that are changing the landscape of how this is accomplished.
Understanding Talent Acquisition
This course begins with an overview of Talent Acquisition and how it has transformed from Recruiting to Talent Acquisition, the emerging role of the Talent Advisor vs. Recruiter, the link to business strategy and HR, along with the emerging trends today. This is followed by Talent Sourcing, referring to the process of attracting and sourcing candidates, and the many key tasks required to successfully attract and hire the talent you need. Onboarding your new hires is the third section covered due to the importance of making a positive first perception and supporting the new hire during their first year.
The course incorporates on-line coursework to learn the fundamentals along with virtual group sessions to promote collaboration, networking, and discussions on how to apply what was learned.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will:
- Describe the purpose of Talent Acquisition and connection to Human Resources and the Business Strategy, including being able to explain that Talent Acquisition is a process along with the key trends impacting how companies are improving the effectiveness and efficiencies of attracting and hiring top talent today.
- Be able to articulate the selection process, including the steps, tools, techniques used, such as partnering with the hiring manager, developing the selection criteria, screening, tests, assessments, interviews, background checks, and final selection, while considering the legal and regulatory impacts.
- Explain how to build effective onboarding programs that will help new employees feel comfortable, connected, and productive in their work environment along with evaluating onboarding and orientation practices to continuously increase the effectiveness of the programs.
The New Rules of Recruitment
“Talent acquisition and recruiting are undergoing rapid disruption, challenging companies to leverage social networks, aggressively market their employment brand, and re-recruit employees every day” (Deloitte, 2025)
“The war for talent is far from over. Companies looking to recruit and acquire talent now compete on a new battlefield shaped by global talent networks and social media and defined by employment brands and changing views of careers. Sixty percent of respondents to our global survey have already or are currently updating and revamping their talent sourcing strategy, and another 27% are considering changes. Faced with a scarcity of key skills and rapidly evolving talent demands, companies that fail to adapt will likely be on the losing end when it comes to attracting and accessing the people and skills they need. Our research clearly shows a major transformation taking place in this area and a need for companies to re-invest in and re-engineer their end-to-end talent acquisition programs” (Deloitte, 2025)
