Introduction to Interpretation

This course examines the profession of interpreting, including employment opportunities, the role of the interpreter, administrative matters, and ethical considerations. In addition, an overview will be given of the three modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive and simultaneous), as well as the different areas of interpretation, such as legal, medical, business, community and conference interpretation.

A master-level court-certified Spanish interpreter. The immediate past president of the Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association.

Judy Jenner is a master-level court-certified Spanish interpreter in Nevada, a court-certified interpreter in California, and an experienced legal, marketing and e-commerce translator with clients on three continents. She runs a successful small translation and interpreting business, Twin Translations, with her twin sister, Dagmar. They are the authors of a book on translation, The Entrepreneurial Linguist: The Business-School Approach to Freelance Translation, which has sold more than 3,000 copies and is required reading at universities around the world. Judy is the immediate past president of the Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association and a columnist for the American Translators Association’s Chronicle. Judy and Dagmar blog about translation, interpretation, and the business of translation on the award-winning blog, Translation Times. Judy is a frequent keynote speaker at translation and interpretation conferences, and has given workshops in 10 countries. Recent events include presentations in the UK, Brazil,  and the Netherlands. Judy was born in Austria, grew up in Mexico City, and has lived in the United States since she was a teenager. She lives in Las Vegas, NV.
