Induction

This option is available if you have a potential Induction Site-Based Mentor at your school that you would like to work with during the course of the Induction program.

The Site Based Induction Mentor application is available online. Admissions in on a rolling admission basis so there is no specific application deadline. Each application is reviewed in the order the supporting documentation is received.

Requirements have recently changed for the Level I Education Specialist credential in the transition to preliminary Education Specialist credential, candidates may need to take additional coursework before beginning the program.

 

To exercise the Early Completion Option (ECO), candidates must hold a preliminary multiple subject, single subject credential, or education specialist credential and be employed in a CA public school.  The intent of the standard is to serve experienced and exceptional candidates.  Interested candidates will need to demonstrate prior teaching experience as the teacher of record that they have the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required of all teacher candidates who complete the Induction program. Candidates eligible for ECO may complete the Induction program in an abbreviated manner (one year).

All candidates who wish to receive a Clear - Single Subject, Multiple Subject, or Education Specialist - Teaching Credential are required to:

1. Apply to the Induction program.
2. Finalize your admission to the program.
3. Induction Mentor and/or Partner must be approved and assigned prior to beginning coursework in the program.
4. Complete all the required courses with a grade of "C" or better.
   • A grade of "C-" or lower is not equivalent to a grade of "C" or higher.
5. Maintain an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the program.
6. Submit verification that you have successfully completed any additional requirements indicated on your Planned Course of Study, if any.
   • Each candidate may or may not have additional requirements indicated.
   • Only items marked with and "X" on your Planned Course of Study are required. Coursework must be completed within 5 years of beginning the program.
7. Submit a Request to Recommend directly to UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies.

How long does it normally take to process an application?
Applications will be reviewed by a credential analyst. Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the Induction Program by mail within 4 weeks of receipt of a completed application. Once an Induction candidate is admitted to the program, detailed information in order to confirm your admission to the program will be sent to you, including a Planned Course of Study. Mentors and Partners will receive an approval via email.

Request to Recommend

Upon completion of the Induction Program, a UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies credentials analyst will submit a formal recommendation to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Details on the process are covered in the Portfolio class.

Only participants who have finalized their admission to the program and completed the entire Induction program are eligible for formal recommendation. Please review your Planned Course of Study for any additional requirements you may have.

• A completed Credentialing Recommend Request form.
• Official transcript(s) verifying completion of all coursework and requirements on your Planned Course of Study.
  • This includes any coursework completed at UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies.
• The Commission will only send the Recommendation notification to the email address they have on file. Update your email with the Commission prior to submitting the Request to Recommend. UC San Diego can no longer do so on your behalf.
• Candidates are required to submit a processing fee directly through the Commission’s online recommendation system upon recommendation for their program.
  • This fee can be made by credit or debit card only.
  • The recommendation email will come from donotreply@ctc.ca.gov
