UC San Diego Extended Studies Counseling and Behavioral Science programs and courses are for individuals seeking to gain experience and knowledge in the mental health field.

Demand for counseling and mental health care is growing. Our programs equip both experienced professionals and those just entering the field with the skills needed to succeed in the field. Programs include Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling and Play Therapy. Prepare for a challenging career in the field of substance abuse counseling and earn Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor I (CADC-I) certification through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals. Extended Studies is approved by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (APT Approved Provider 98-046). Play Therapy courses are approved for continuing education and count toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist or Registered Play Therapist Supervisor.
