Give us a week to change your life

UC Your Future is a new program through the Division of Extended Studies geared toward those who are transitioning into retirement, being laid off, transitioning into entrepreneurship, or simply seeking to expand their skills and knowledge. Join us for one week to unlock your potential, strengthen your networks, enhance your wellbeing, and rekindle wonder.

Courses

Cohorts will be structured as 3 courses, each taught in a 3-hour session, running consecutively over one week. Each session is taught by industry-leading experts dedicated to guiding you through this next stage of your journey. Each registrant will also have access to 1-on-1 Executive Coaching appointments.

All courses are held in Classroom 340 at 8980 Villa La Jolla Dr, 3rd floor.

The tuition will include:

  • Three courses, each taught in a 3-hour session over the course of one week.
  • One opening event to welcome the first cohort.
  • One ticket to the keynote speaker event.
  • One closing event to network with your peers and the instructors.

  • Reflect on past experiences to identify enduring interests and how they shape your path.
  • Apply these insights to guide future decisions and craft a personal intention for this stage of life.

Write Your Story Forward: Your Wellbeing

  • Explore how attending to your wellbeing can support you through the stress of a transition.
  • Self-assess the quality of each of the six wellbeing pillars.
  • Select two to three pillars to enhance through small daily habits.

The Power of People: Building and Strengthening Your Networks

  • Learn how networks form and connect, define the purpose of each network, and map your social orbits.
  • Develop a strategy for making new connections, including key questions to ask.
  • Understand how to balance and leverage LinkedIn, in-person interactions, and professional groups.

Meet the Instructors

Ed Hidalgo

Ed Hidalgo is a career development educator and workforce consultant who bridges K–12 learning with the realities of the labor market. With nearly two decades in human resources, recruiting, and staffing across diverse roles, he brings a practical HR lens to helping people clarify interests, navigate change, and make confident next-step decisions. Ed is a master trainer in Career Connected Schools and a leading practitioner of RIASEC-based, dialogic career conversations.
 
Participants will leave with a practical, real-world language for understanding their interests—one that helps them shape what’s next and supports the networking and wellbeing classes that follow.

Shannon Jordan, M.A.

Shannon Jordan, M.A., is a Board Certified Coach, and an ICF Professional Certified Coach who has spent 25 years helping people thrive in their professional lives. She specializes in career transitions and integrates strengths-based development, positive psychology, and neuroscience-based interventions into her work. She has worked broadly across both the public and private sectors supporting clients in finance, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, insurance, engineering, technology, bioscience, manufacturing, and non-profit organizations.

Shannon was on the founding team for Qualcomm's career development initiative providing workshops, coaching and assessment for employees across the globe. She also led talent development for Potential Project, a global leadership development and research consultancy. Before moving into corporate work, Shannon spent 10 years at UC San Diego Extended Studies directing a coaching and counseling center for mid-career professionals in transition. Shannon is a graduate of the Modern Elder Academy – a midlife school for “transitional intelligence”.  She has taught on the adjunct faculties of University of San Diego School of Leadership, UC San Diego Rady Graduate School of Management Executive Education, UC Irvine Extension, and currently teaches for UC San Diego Health.

Shannon holds a B.A. in Business and an M.A. in Counseling and recently completed training as a Certified Lifestyle and Wellness Coach through Harvard Medical School. She is a contributing author to the book Building Workforce Strength and served as an Ask-the-Expert columnist on workplace issues for USAToday.com.

Chris Foster

Chris Foster is a marketing, branding, storytelling, and strategic leader who creates connections and programs that empower people and organizations to thrive. With a passion for helping, teaching, and developing relationships, Chris is an expert in clarifying the “why”, “what”, and “how” of intentions, decisions, and actions within a business and educational environment.

He is currently VP New Business Development at Modern Postcard, a national leader in Direct Marketing services for businesses of all sizes. Chris leads strategic efforts that bring new business ideas to life, working across clients, partners, and the organization.

Chris is a thought leader publishing articles with Forbes Business Council, has taught UCSD Extension courses for over a decade, leads marketing and business workshops, hosts webcasts, presents original content, moderates panels for summits, and serves as Chair of the Brand Response Council for the Performance Driven Marketing Institute. In addition, he is the creator and host of the podcast Menfolk Journeys.
