Louise Kahn (1901-1974 is celebrated as one of the 20th century's most influential Brutalist architects. Known for masterful use of light, concrete, and brick, his key works include Yale University Art Gallery, the Salk Institute and the monumental National Assembly Building of Bangladesh Kahn also influenced a generation of architects while teaching at Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania. He travelled worldwide to great acclaim, yet his unconventional personal life resulted in three separate families and a tragic lonely death in the Men's Room at Penn Station in New York City.
Presenter: Diane Kane, an architectural historian, is a retired senior planner for the City of San Diego. She was previously the heritage resources coordinator for Caltrans in Los Angeles. A popular lecturer at Osher, she has taught architectural history and planning at several southland universities. She received her PhD in architectural history from UC Santa Barbara.
