May 13: Peter Pupping and Jeff Basile: The Very Thought of You

Together for more than 30 years—performing with the Peter Pupping Band and the Peter Pupping Quartet—Peter and Jeff have also performed as a duo since 1997. Their duo recording The Very Thought of You features 13 jazz-standard tracks drawn from the Golden Age of Swing. For this appearance they will present a varied program spanning jazz standards, nuevo flamenco, and contemporary acoustic music.
 


Speaker Bio

Jeff Basile
An eclectic musician, composer, and musicologist, Jeff Basile began his professional career at 17. After studying contrabass with pioneering musician Bertram Turetzky, he joined the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. He later left to pursue world music and jazz, developing a versatile bass style that informs his wide-ranging performance and compositional work.

Peter Pupping
Peter Pupping holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in music from San Diego State University. A frequent soloist and ensemble leader, Peter fronts the Peter Pupping Quartet and the Peter Pupping Band on the GuitarSounds label and collaborates in duo projects with guitarists such as Fred Benedetti and William Wilson. His repertoire spans classical and contemporary acoustic music, world styles (Spanish, flamenco, Brazilian bossa nova and samba, Irish), jazz, and popular songs. Active in recording since 1993, Peter has released 18 recordings and is the founder and director of the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra, a 40-guitar ensemble supplemented by bass and guest multi-instrumentalists.
