What To Send
Fill out the International Programs Application Form. All documents must be in English.
General International Programs Application Checklist:
1. Application fee (nonrefundable):
- English Language Programs: $175
- University Credit Programs: $225
- Certificate Programs: $225
2. Financial verification WITH SPONSOR'S SIGNATURE ON PAGE 5 (if I-20 is required)
3. Copy of passport namepage
4. Signature in section 9 of page 5 of the application
5. UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies medical insurance fee
6. Tuberculosis (TB) Assessment and Immunization Requirements: details and instructions will be sent to each student after the student is accepted into the program.
7. On-campus housing application (if selected; summer only)
- Include the 4-week On-campus Housing Application.
- For On-campus 8-week Program Housing, please request the 8-week on-campus housing application from iphousing@ucsd.edu
- Full payment must be included with the on-campus housing application to reserve space.
Do you need to submit more documents with your application?
Your program may require that you submit additional documents along with the International Programs Application Form. Please see the additional required documents below that must be submitted for your specific program:
Additional Supporting Documents for English Language Programs:
- Legal English Program: Please include a brief statement to explain previous law-related coursework or work experience and purpose of taking this program. Students must have an advanced language proficiency level to take this program. Advanced proficiency levels are determined by ELI tests which are given upon arrival at UC San Diego.
- Graduate School Preparation Academy: Please submit proof of completion of an undergraduate degree OR letter of acceptance or provisional/conditional acceptance to an accredited graduate program OR transcripts of your 4 most recent semesters.
Additional Supporting Documents for TEFL Certificate and Programs:
- Language proficiency verification
- Copy of transcripts in English for the two most recent years of academic studies
- A one-page statement explaining why you would like to take the TEFL Professional Certificate, TEFL Proficiency, or the Advanced Studies in TEFL program
Additional Supporting Documents for University and Professional Studies (UPS):
- Language proficiency verification
- Copy of transcripts in English for the two most recent years of academic studies. These transcripts must clearly indicate excellent academic achievement. Students must be in the top 10% of his/her school.
- UPS Course List Form listing 12 or more courses per quarter, organized by quarter, you would like to take at UC San Diego or UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies (UPS Only). This form is part of the application form for UPS.
- A one-page statement explaining your reasons for choosing UC San Diego for your study abroad experience.
- Submit the required Third Party Release form which is included in the application form.
Additional Supporting Documents for Business Certificate Programs:
- Language proficiency verification
- For Business Administration, we require a copy of transcripts in English for the two most recent years of academic studies (one year of university studies preferred, but not required).
- For all other Business Certificate programs, students must submit either university transcripts showing successful completion of a three or four-year university degree or a CV showing a minimum number of 4 or more years of full-time work experience. Transcripts should indicate excellent academic achievement.
- Resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
- A recommendation letter on university or company letterhead from a previous employer or professor
- Personal statement. Please provide a 350-word essay, which addresses each of the following:
- Brief introduction of yourself
- Which certificate program are you applying for? Why are you interested in this specific certificate?
- How will you benefit from this program? How does this program relate to your career or professional goals?
- What will you contribute to the program? How will your participation benefit the program?
- Is there anything else you want to tell us or explain about your professional, volunteer, or educational experience (e.g., low GPA) that will assist in our decision-making?
- There are no final application deadlines to apply for these programs, but all programs close when they are full. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis until all seats available are taken by the most qualified applicants.
Additional Supporting Documents for Paralegal Certificate:
- Language proficiency verification
- Three dated and signed letters of recommendation on academic or company letterhead
- Copy of transcripts in English indicating a strong academic record; including a grading key
- Completion of university degree
