MAINSTREAM SCIENCE (K-6)

This online course is designed to help teachers better understand how to weave together science, technology, reading, writing, the arts, and mathematics (STREAM) to create a powerful inclusive platform of learning which specifically relates to a variety of real-world scientific phenomena. In addition to learning what is involved in incorporating all aspects of STREAM into science learning, teachers will also learn how to successfully implement all the components of the Blue Star Education MainSTREAM Science kit. Throughout this course, teachers will learn the basic principles of project-based learning as well as specific strategies to design and implement their cross-curricular lessons and units. Teachers will learn how to walk the fine line between critical thinking and creativity as they explore specific strategies to teach critical-thinking skills within the context of a STREAM-rich classroom. Teachers will dive deep into the principles of student engagement and active learning as they learn to manage small cooperative groups. Teachers will also learn how to use real-world problems as the underlying basis for a STREAM cross-curricular project. Assessment options are also presented. This course serves as a strong introduction to teaching science using an active and robust STREAM approach.
