GITC Strum + Sing - Strum into Standard - Uke

Strum Into Standard for Guitar requires comfort playing the Open G chords you learned in the Just Add Guitar courses. Those Open Tuning chords are simplified forms of the ones you will learn here, and your fingers will have an easy time finding new positions if you know the Open Tuning versions first. You will learn to play in the keys of A and E. You’ll learn to slide chords up the neck and to incorporate some basic fingerpicking, too. Having these skills makes accompanying and interpreting songs richer and more musically exciting! And learning to play in Standard Tuning makes jamming with other guitarists much easier. Course Prerequisite: Just Add Guitar - I and/or II In Strum Into Standard-Guitar, you’ll transition from playing in Open Tuning to learning to tune and play your guitar using Standard Tuning. You will play the chord forms you learned earlier in a fuller form, and also begin to play in a new key! You’ll learn how to invent your own strumming pattern, too. This class will open your ears to composing songs music-first and lyrics-first while exploring musical dynamics to express a fuller range of emotions and melodic possibilities. Teachers and staff members providing educational services to students who take this class will learn to make foundational music in alignment with content standards for Music using percussion, voice and folk instruments. This class includes 6 instructional hours, 4 field/home practice and/or classroom contact hours with students or children. Skills taught in the course include healthy singing, songleading techniques and practice to build verbal and literacy skills, guitar, songwriting lyrics for learning to drive academic and social-emotional content learning, musical activities and songs for behavior and classroom management, and differentiated instruction for specific learning styles. Instruments will be provided.
