The UC San Diego Department of Extended Studies offers an Approved Health and Wellness Coach Training & Education Program accredited by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to sit for the HWC Certifying Examination, paving the way to becoming a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).

Program Overview

Our comprehensive Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate program consists of 10.0 units and 100 contact hours. This course is ideal for health professionals, such as nurses, dietitians, fitness trainers, and therapists, as well as anyone passionate about helping others improve their well-being.
You’ll gain the essential skills and knowledge needed to become an effective coach, including:
  • Coaching structure and process
  • Key health and wellness conditions and their impact on clients
  • Ethical and legal considerations in coaching
  • Practical coaching techniques for promoting behavior change and client empowerment
You will also learn how to develop tailored coaching plans, motivate clients, and support them through their wellness journey, creating transformative outcomes that improve their overall health and quality of life.
