Specialized Certificate

About the Antenna Engineering Program

Due to the increasing demand for wireless communication and the need for more efficient and effective ways to transmit and receive signals, antenna engineering is reaching an all time high. As more devices and technologies rely on wireless communication, such as smartphones, tablets, internet of things (IoT) devices, and 5G networks, the need for better antennas to support these systems continues to grow. Additionally, advancements in antenna technology are also needed for other applications such as satellite communication, radar systems, and GPS navigation.

This certificate will provide you with the specialized knowledge and skills in the design, analysis, and optimization of antennas. It introduces the methods of testing and measuring the antennas, and applications of antennas in various systems. The certificate starts with the basic knowledge of antenna design and then extends to modern technologies in the design and fabrication of antennas.

Prerequisites:

Students should have a general knowledge of electrical engineering, circuits, signals, and systems. We recommend a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar fields, or a combination of a post-secondary degree and related job experience.

Real Experiences, Real Growth: Hear from Our Alumni

If you’re looking to grow your expertise in the electromagnetic field, this certification is an excellent choice!

My experience with the Antenna Engineering Program has been incredibly rewarding. As an RF/Wireless Test Engineer, I enrolled to deepen my knowledge in antenna design and simulation, areas I don’t typically manage in my day-to-day work. The program provided a solid foundation in key concepts and introduced me to advanced RF devices and antenna technologies. Its flexible, asynchronous format made it easy to balance with my work schedule, while the assignments and discussion boards helped reinforce the material and foster collaboration with classmates. The final projects and exams challenged me to apply what I had learned in practical, real-world scenarios. This certification has significantly expanded my expertise and even motivated me to consider new career paths. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to broaden their understanding of the electromagnetic field.

Martha Espinoza,

A Comprehensive and Enriching Learning Experience

My experience with the Advanced Antennas Design, Modeling, and Simulation course has been exceptional. The course is well-structured, with each module aligning perfectly with the reading assignments and covering both theoretical and hands-on aspects. The curriculum is dense yet thoughtfully sequenced, ensuring a smooth learning journey. I particularly appreciated the access to industry-leading software like MATLAB, HFSS, FEKO, and CST, along with related workshops, which provided invaluable practical experience.

The discussion board tasks encouraged deeper research and insightful exchanges with classmates, further enriching the learning process. Having taken several courses at UCSD Extended Studies, I can confidently say this one stands out, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in advancing their knowledge of antenna design.
