Monitoring Coastal Cliff Processes and Erosion

Speaker Adam Young, Ph.D.
Coordinator Jim Brown
The Scripps coastal monitoring program for San
Diego County is one of the most comprehensive
shoreline observing systems in the world. Beaches,
cliffs and waves have been monitored at select San
Diego sites since 2001 using in-situ instruments,
GPS equipped platforms, and more recently,
photogrammetric unmanned aircraft systems. A
central goal is to discover if any signature exists that
could foretell heightened risk in specific locations.
