This course provides high school students with essential programming and mathematical skills for courses in AI. The content covers programming fundamentals in Python and mathematics foundations: algebra, statistics, linear algebra, and probability, through hands-on projects in Google Colaboratory, preparing students for advanced AI and machine learning coursework. Please note, this course is not A-G approved and is a zero unit class.

Samantha Burrhus
Samantha Burrhus has been teaching high school math for 12 years, with experience teaching courses ranging from Algebra through Advanced Placement (AP) mathematics. She is passionate about creating engaging and accessible learning experiences that help students develop not only mathematical understanding, but confidence. 

She earned her undergraduate degree in Statistics and her Master of Education from the University of California, Davis. Throughout her teaching career, she has developed curriculum and taught mathematics across a range of levels and learning environments, including remote and hybrid programs. She joined UC San Diego Extended Studies as an instructor in 2026, where she brings her experience in mathematics education and curriculum development to the Division of Extended Studies.
