10 Weeks | Prerequisite: ART - 40638 Principles of User Experience or Equivalent Experience.
Master the core technologies driving modern UX design, including HTML5, CSS, and web-based frameworks, in this hands-on course. Building on prior UX coursework, you’ll adapt existing case studies for multiple devices and mobile users, gaining practical experience with responsive design techniques.
Guided by an experienced UX industry professional, you’ll develop the skills to create responsive, user-centered websites optimized for various screen sizes. This course emphasizes foundational web development skills, focusing on HTML, CSS, and frameworks like Bootstrap, enabling you to design and implement flexible, user-friendly layouts.
Through a series of structured sessions, you’ll explore mobile-first design, media queries, CSS Flexbox, and Grid. You’ll also document your progress with detailed case studies, including user personas and journeys, while building a professional portfolio that showcases your projects and skills in responsive design.

Course Information
Equipment/Software: Students should have a basic or intermediate level of knowledge of HTML and CSS. Students will need to have a recent version of Adobe Dreamweaver, Sublime Text, or other programmer's text editing program. UCSD DES students are eligible for an Adobe Creative Cloud student discount.
Flexible Enrollment: This course is a Required Course for the User Experience (UX) Design Professional Certificate but is open to all students, even if you're not enrolled in the Certificate Program. Principles of User Experience is the prerequisite for this course.
Academic Calendar: The Academic Calendar shows the open enrollment dates and term start dates for each quarter. Courses do not necessarily start on the first day of the term.
