Cantonese for Communication VI

LACH-40031

Over 120 million people worldwide speak Cantonese. It is the third most spoken language in China and widely used among overseas Chinese communities. This three-credit course is designed for heritage Cantonese speakers, Mandarin speakers, and non-Chinese learners interested in deepening their understanding of the Cantonese language and culture.
In this advanced-level Cantonese course, students will continue to utilize Cantonese phonetics while expanding their knowledge of new characters, grammar, and sentence structures. The curriculum revisits familiar daily topics while enhancing cultural awareness through various media, including popular Cantonese songs, films, slang, proverbs, situational dialogues, TV shows, and podcast news.
Learners will further develop real-life communication skills through oral presentations, discussions on current news, and exposure to authentic Cantonese TV programs. By studying unique Cantonese characters and grammar concepts such as auxiliary ending words and inverted sentence structures, students will work toward reading and understanding both colloquial and written Cantonese with clear, accessible explanations.
