Learn the Fundamental Principles of Pharmacology

This course will emphasize the major classes of clinically important drugs currently used in medical practice. Within each anatomic system, emphasis is placed on discussion of drug groups and prototypes. Following a review of receptor biology and signal transduction, basic principles of drug action, metabolism and toxicity are discussed as they relate to specific organ systems and disease targets. Topics include: autonomic, neuropharmacology, immunopharmacology, cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial drugs.
 

Learning Objectives

  • Grasp the general principles of pharmacology and mechanisms of drug action at the molecular level
  • Become familiar with the current topics of pharmacogenomics and gene/protein therapy, as well as the regulatory (FDA) and industrial aspects of pharmacological science
