French Refining Fluency, Part B
LAFR-40034
Conducted entirely in French, this course is designed for intermediate to advanced
learners who already have a foundation in French grammar and vocabulary, and who
wish to strengthen their accuracy, fluency, and confidence in communication.
Through short stories from the 20th and 21st century, students encounter a variety of voices, themes, and narrative techniques that illuminate different moments in French culture and society. Each text provides a complete, self-contained narrative, offering an accessible yet rich entry point into authentic language. This format naturally lends itself to close reading, interpretation, and lively discussion, while supporting the development of descriptive and expressive skills, cultural awareness, and analytical ability.
Working with entire stories—rather than isolated excerpts—allows learners to follow the arc of a full narrative, appreciate its style and tone, and observe the cohesion of vocabulary, syntax, and meaning across the text. Because short stories are compact, students can delve more deeply into language and content, which in turn facilitates confident participation in conversation and debate. Each week, both classes will focus on a single story, examining its themes, its stylistic features, and the linguistic tools it offers for more nuanced and effective expression.
