This course will recapitulate and reinforce coding concepts previously learned in order to prepare students for entry into the medical coding industry and to take a national credentialing exam.

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

•  Accurately and efficiently code many record types including Inpatient, Outpatient, Physician, Emergency Room, Long Term Care, and Home Health    

•   Understand diagnostic groupings 

•   Apply official coding guidelines and reporting requirements 

•   Calculate and analyze case mix     

•   Identify the steps needed to be eligible for, effectively prepare for, and access the national credentialing exams (CCS, CCA, CPC, COC)

•   Identify the format, restrictions, and policies of the credentialing exams including scoring, retakes, allowed resources, and time limits

•   Understand basic billing and denial management objectives

•   Prepared a resume and started your professional networking
