Building Agentic AI Systems

CSE-41415

Design, Orchestrate, and Deploy Intelligent AI Agents for Real-World Workflows

Building Agentic AI Systems is a hands-on, project-driven course that equips you with the skills to design and implement intelligent AI agents capable of reasoning, planning, and taking action. The course introduces the core foundations of agentic AI, including tool use, memory, and multi-step reasoning, before guiding you through practical implementation using modern frameworks such as CrewAI and LangGraph.

With a strong emphasis on a design-first approach, you will analyze real-world problems, determine when agent-based solutions are appropriate, and architect both single-agent and multi-agent systems. By the end of the course, you will build and present a working agentic AI prototype that automates or enhances a real-world workflow.

What You Will Learn

  • Explain core concepts of agentic AI, including tool use, planning, memory, and reasoning
  • Differentiate agentic AI systems from traditional large language model (LLM) prompting
  • Design agent-based solutions aligned to real-world problems and workflows
  • Build functional AI agents using CrewAI with integrated tools, APIs, and data sources
  • Orchestrate multi-agent systems using LangGraph with routing and state management
  • Apply human-in-the-loop patterns for oversight and control
  • Evaluate agent performance for reliability, safety, and risk
  • Develop and present a real-world agentic AI capstone project
Topics Covered

  • Introduction to Agentic AI and the Agent Landscape
  • Agentic Design Patterns (ReAct, Plan-and-Execute, Human-in-the-Loop)
  • AI Agent Frameworks: CrewAI, LangGraph, and Emerging Tools
  • Building Single-Agent Systems with Tool Integration
  • Agent Memory, State Management, and RAG
  • LangGraph Fundamentals: Graphs, Nodes, Edges, and State
  • Multi-Agent Orchestration: Routing, Handoffs, and Parallel Execution
  • AI-Assisted Development Environments
  • Agent Evaluation, Testing, and Risk Management
  • Capstone Project Development

Joon Yoo
Joon Yoo is an AI, data, and cloud architecture leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning early-stage startups and Fortune 10 enterprises. He currently serves as AI/ML Architect for Agentic Frameworks at BlueCloud, where he leads a 22-person team delivering agentic AI workflow automation and enterprise data platform modernization using Snowflake Cortex, the Claude Agent SDK, and AWS-based orchestration.

Joon is also CTO and co-founder of CogniSci Labs, where he leads technology strategy for CerebralScore, an at-home, saliva-based screening platform using cfDNA methylation analysis to support earlier detection of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. CogniSci Labs is a cohort member of the Deep Bio Homelab Accelerator.

Prior to BlueCloud, Joon spent nearly five years at Snowflake as a Lead Data Science and ML Engineering Instructor. During his time there, he delivered more than 200 client-facing workshops to over 3,000 data professionals worldwide and provided custom enterprise training to Fortune 500 clients including Apple, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, USAA, Samsung, and Travelers. He authored Snowflake’s first customer-facing Data Science course and contributed exam content and curriculum for the Snowflake Data Science, Data Engineering, and Architect certifications. He also presented “MLOps and Data Science” at Snowflake Summit 2022.

His teaching style is practical and implementation-focused, drawing from real production systems to show how modern AI tools, agentic workflows, and cloud data platforms come together in business environments. Joon holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and is Snowflake SnowPro Core certified.
