Skill Development for Career Advisors

This course will provide information for knowledge of basic skills required to perform effectively as a Career Advisor. Career advisors help focus clients’ skills, interests and values, while teaching them how to gather information about workplace options and helping them develop strategies to reach their career goals. A Career Advisor has a responsibility not only to help clients learn and grow to be successful, but also to keep learning themselves. Career Development takes into account a wide range of information from many diverse areas. The Career Advisor with current information, skilled at their role and with a great attitude has the ability to impact and make a difference in the lives of many!

Theresa Perales
Theresa Perales (she/her/ella) brings nearly two decades of experience as an educator and workforce development professional. Her career has encompassed teaching English Language Acquisition, Rhetoric and Writing, Health Science, and Career Advising, providing her with a broad and versatile skill set as an educator. In workforce development, she has worked with a local workforce development board, offering group and one-on-one support in career exploration, navigation, planning, and job readiness training.

In her current role, Theresa provides technical assistance to grantees of various state-funded workforce development initiatives. Her work focuses on supporting programs that serve communities historically affected by systemic barriers to employment, economic equity, and social mobility.
