Embark on a STEAM-Filled Adventure at the Sally Ride Science Academy!

The Sally Ride Science Academy summer program offers science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) workshops for students entering K-12th grade. During these workshops, students assume the roles of space explorer, marine biologist, computer programmer and more as they immerse themselves in hands-on projects. Top-notch STEAM instructors lead these workshops, serving as both teachers and role models. These summer workshops also incorporate real-life stories of vibrant women conducting research in each field. Their examples inspire students and help make STEAM careers more accessible.

Sally Ride Science Academy Summer STEAM Program

Spark curiosity and creativity at the Sally Ride Science Academy! Designed for K–12 students, our hands-on STEAM workshops let kids step into the roles of space explorers, coders, marine biologists, and more. Led by expert instructors, these workshops make learning fun while opening doors to exciting STEAM careers.

Lower Elementary School

Ignite your imagination as young explorers dive into fun, hands-on adventures in marine life, building, robots, coding, and even messy science experiments—perfect for growing minds in K through 2nd grade!

Upper Elementary School

Spark your curiosity where young learners explore exciting fields like marine biology, engineering, robotics, programming, and even messy discoveries through fun, hands-on activities for grades 3-5.

Middle School

Dive into dynamic workshops where you can explore fields like engineering, robotics, entrepreneurship, marine biology, geology, and even creative areas like art, VR, and screenwriting through hands-on projects.

High School

Explore your passions with workshops in cutting-edge fields like AI, robotics, space exploration, epidemiology, digital media, marine biology, and sustainability, all designed to inspire and prepare you for future STEAM careers.

How to Enroll

STEP ONE: Create a student account

Please take a moment to create an account in the student's name. Do not use your student's school email. Proceed to Step Two if you have created an account previously. Parents, if you are enrolling multiple students into the program, please create separate accounts for each student.


STEP TWO: Select the course level tab

Select the course level tab to view the course offerings by session.


STEP THREE:Select your course(s)

Select the courses of your choice from the course level tabs and click on the hyperlinked course titles (a new browser tab will open).


STEP FOUR: Add course offering to shopping cart

You will be directed to the course landing page. Click "Add to cart" to add course offering to your shopping cart.


STEP Five: Repeat as needed

Return to the Sally Ride Science Academy page and repeat as needed.


STEP Six: Complete the authorization form 
Visit this link (https://ucsd-extendedstudies.formstack.com/forms/sally_ride_science_junior_academy_authorization_form_su25) to complete the authorization form for each enrolled student.

FERPA Form

Students who wish to have parents make changes to their account, such as adding or dropping a course, must fill out the FERPA form.

FERPA Policies: 
Students have the right to authorize additional individuals to have access to their education record. Students may authorize, in writing, someone else to have access to view and/or update their education record. Students who wish to authorize the release of records to other individuals should complete and submit the FERPA Release form. 

The completed FERPA Release form should be submitted to UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies Student Services: 

  • By email to unex-reg@ucsd.edu, Attn: FERPA Release 
  • By fax: (858) 534-8527, Attn: FERPA Release 
  • In person or by mail to our La Jolla Student Services location
