Introduction to Digital Printing
6 weeks | $350 | Hybrid
Learn techniques essential for generating high quality digital prints by exploring the relationship between image processing software like Photoshop and your printer. This course covers the basics of digital color and black & white printing, how to process images for print, common problems digital photographers encounter and how to develop a cohesive personal workflow for consistent output. Students generate and print images on a variety of glossy and semi-gloss papers using dye and pigment printer technologies. Instruction includes lectures, demonstrations, critiques and hands-on exercises.
Please note: students must be located in the Greater San Diego region. Monday classes (6-8pm) will take place live online via Zoom, Wednesday classes (6-8pm) will take place in-person at UCC in our digital printing lab. This learning experience is intentionally designed as a combination of in-class and web-based instruction. In-class meetings follow the published schedule. Students are also expected to engage with course content online during the published course dates.
Prada, Oreste, An Image Quality Engineer for Hewlett Packard Company, where he evaluates and optimizes image quality on wide format professional photo printers.
Oreste Prada teaches Intro to Digital Printing , Color Theory for Photographers , and Intermediate Digital Printing for the Photography: Images and Techniques certificate program. Oreste has a master's degree in mechanical engineering and is an image quality engineer for Hewlett Packard Co., where he evaluates and optimizes image quality on wide format professional photo printers. He is especially interested in the relationship between art and technology, and works to educate photographers on integrating a traditional fine art approach into the digital world.
