Gain a basic understanding of how the human body works. This course is designed to cover the fundamental concepts of human physiology. A general overview of most of the systems of the human body will be presented along with a discussion about regulation and the medical relevance of the physiological concepts. Although the course is geared toward students who have limited science and math backgrounds, the textbook provides enough detail to satisfy those students who want to enter the health professions. Topics include the following systems: nervous, endocrine, muscular, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, urinary, digestive and reproductive.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of chemistry and cell biology is required to be successful in this course.

Kumar, Praveen
Dr. Praveen Kumar brings his strong interdisciplinary interest and outstanding training in the fields of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, and pathophysiology to his course on human physiology. Dr. Kumar has been working for the Biotechnology/ Pharmaceutical industry for the last 9 years where he has been involved in cutting-edge research to understand the molecular basis of disease and to support drug discovery programs. He has 10 years of research experience from UCSF in basic science and has published his work in peer-reviewed journals and has presented it at leading national and international conferences. In his spare time, Dr. Kumar enjoys hiking and biking.
INSTRUCTOR:
Ahuja, Nidhi
Nidhi Ahuja, Ph.D., has a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, a Master's degree in Biotechnology and a Doctorate degree in Biotechnology. Her research interests lie at the interface of invading pathogenic bacteria and the susceptible human hosts. After completing her postdoctoral research at University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Ahuja dedicated herself to sharing what she had learned with others. Since 2008, she has been teaching various disciplines of biology—both in the classroom and online. She has taught Human Physiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, General Biology, Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology courses. She encourages her students to break the traditional disciplinary boundaries and make interdisciplinary connections in order to appreciate the bea...Read More
