Bio
John Tat is a translational scientist with diverse background in cancer biology, radiobiology, toxicology, drug development, STEM education, and public health. He holds a double baccalaureate in physiology/neuroscience and history from UCSD and a Ph.D. in molecular medicine from TSRI.
Professionally, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pharmacology and toxicology at the UCSD School of Medicine and conducted health education research at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. He has also worked in the biopharmaceutical industry as a cancer pharmacologist.
Teaching is one of the most fulfilling aspects of his professional life, and he has served as an instructor-of-record at SDSU, TSRI, and UCSD. He has taught at all education levels, from undergraduates, to doctoral trainees, to non-traditional students. He designs his courses using evidence-based methods to meet the 2011 AAAS Vision and Change’s challenge to teach science the way science is practiced. He hopes to use his extensive experience in academia and the biopharmaceutical industry to prepare students professionally for the dynamic fields of biological and biomedical sciences.
