In this project-based class, students develop a glider using everyday materials (i.e. cardboard, rubber bands, hair ties, etc.). The basics of flight and aerodynamics are taught as students explore aircraft and wing designs. Concepts taught include the forces of flight, Newton’s laws of motion, and Bernoulli’s Principle. The engineering design process is carried out from defining the problem to testing a design.
Note:
This class is designed for middle school students. The Sally Ride Science Junior Academy courses are designed to inspire young adults to pursue careers in STE[+a]M.
