Learn to Share and Manipulate Spatial Data in the Web Environment
Online geospatial technologies move the power of GIS from a local environment to everyone within the reach of the internet. The main goals of the course are to introduce students to many aspects of Web based GIS. Students will gain the abilities to create online maps, share and manipulate spatial data in the web environment, collect spatial data using mobile applications, and create web applications for GIS - skills that are in high demand in many industries. This course is intended for those with desktop GIS experience wanting to learn online GIS skills.

Learning Outcome:
- Have the ability to create and publish web maps
- Add, manipulate, and analyze spatial data using web GIS
- Create web applications for spatial data collection, analysis, visualization, and to share decision making tools with the public
- Experience with ArcGIS Online from ESRI for the most common online GIS tasks
Course typically offered: Online in Fall and Spring
Enrollment will be closed three weekdays before course start date.
Software: Students will use ArcGIS Online by ESRI in this course. The license for the software is included in course price.
Prerequisites: Completion of GIS I: Introduction to GIS is required.

Jason Batchelor holds a master's in geography with a focus on distributed hydrologic models from San Diego State University, a bachelor's in biology and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional certification. He is currently the senior GIS analyst of San Diego County, for which he focuses on wildfire planning and oversees six GIS analysts and over 100 planners. Mr. Batchelor also presently chairs the SanGIS Technical Advisory Board.
