The University of California, San Diego, (Division of Extended Studies’ Legal Programs) and The University of Trento (Law School), are hosting a summer symposium in Italy on ADR and ODR; a rich program with a comparative approach presented by world renowned experts from the European Union and the US.
In collaboration with Steinbeis (Germany) and Resolutia (Italy), the symposium will feature engaging presentations by preeminent professors, workshops with top European and US mediators, and simulations with Honorable Retired Judges from California.
The symposium will be held in the quaint city of Trento, richly steeped in Medieval, and Renaissance history, and strategically located close to Verona, Venice, and the World Heritage Site of the Dolomites alpine region.
In addition to the immersive curriculum, the full program includes a guided visit of the city of Trento and the 13th Century Buonconsiglio Castle, a wine tasting experience, dinner at the historic Palazzo di Roccabruna, and one full day guided tour of Verona. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive an advanced mediation training (20 hours) certificate from the University of California San Diego in partnership with the University of Trento.
Additionally, UCSD certifies this activity is approved by the State Bar of California for 20 hours MCLE credit.

Trento
Off the beaten path of mass tourism, Trento is a quaint city full of historic charm. With its unique architectural mix of Medieval and Renaissance buildings, it is a true hidden gem. Situated in a wide glacial valley with a backdrop of beautiful mountain peaks, Trento is influenced by Germanic architecture as it was part of Austria until 1919. Trento is famous for its Trentodoc, one of the most precious spumante sparkling wines in Italy.
Verona
The city of lovers, opera, and romance in northern Italy, Verona is renowned as the setting for “Romeo & Juliet” and for its roman era Arena. Because of the value and importance of its many historical buildings, Verona has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A guided visit of Verona is included in the program on Friday, June 23. We will travel from Trento to Verona via private bus and visit: Piazza delle Erbe and the historic center of Verona, the Arena, Juliet’s house, and more.
Venice
Known as the most romantic city in Italy, Venice is also one of the most iconic and visited places in the world. Despite the mass tourism, it is still possible to venture around the city and find serene corners, tucked away from the main attractions to enjoy the essence of its canals. Venice can be easily reached by train from Trento. Fast trains connect the two cities in around 2 hours. From Verona, Venice can be reached in one hour by train.
Dolomites
The Dolomites are mountain range in the Italian Alps in northeastern Italy, stretching across the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, and Friuli Venezia Giulia. In 2009, these mountains were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenery is dramatic, and visiting is recommended in the summer especially for hikers. We also recommend renting a car to visit the area. Distance from Trento is about one to two hours depending on the area you plan to visit.

Dal Pubel, Luca
Luca Dal Pubel is a scholar-practitioner in conflict resolution, conflict management, mediation, and online dispute resolution (ODR).
In addition to UCSD Extended Studies, he teaches alternative dispute resolution (ADR), mediation and negotiation courses for the International Security and Conflict Resolution (ISCOR) program and Political Science department at San Diego State University and Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).
Luca is also an adjunct faculty in the LL.M. in ADR program at the Catholic University of Portugal and a visting lecturer at the Institute of National Defense of Portugal (NDIP).
