Over 120 million people around the world speak Cantonese, it is the third most widely spoken language in China and commonly used among overseas Chinese communities.
This 3-credit course is designed for heritage Cantonese speakers, Mandarin speakers, and non-Chinese learners interested in Cantonese language and culture. In this fourth level of the Cantonese course, students will focus on improving their pronunciation and intonation through practicing Cantonese Phonetic Yale-Romanization or Jyutping. Alongside revisiting common daily life topics, the course will delve into cultural understanding using various mediums such as popular Cantonese songs, movies, slang, and proverbs.
Furthermore, students will enhance their speaking and listening skills through activities like oral presentations, current news discussions, and watching authentic TV shows. By continuing to explore Cantonese characters, grammar, and sentence patterns, learners will develop the ability to read and understand written Cantonese effectively.
