Shakeba DuBose has practiced health care law for over 17 years. Shakeba began her legal career as an assistant attorney general representing the Ohio Department of Medicaid in provider audit and beneficiary appeals and she also provided counsel to the Ohio Minority Health Commission advising grantees of their legal obligations as recipients of grant funding for health disparity educational programming. Shakeba later joined Ohio’s premier Medicaid managed care plan as their first associate general counsel serving as a generalist advising executives and staff on regulatory matters and leading the company’s contract management team. In 2013, Shakeba established The DuBose Law Firm, a boutique health law practice that provides legal and compliance services to health care professionals and health services organizations. She represents health care clients before their licensure boards and in audit appeals, as well as provides employment contract reviews for physicians, and serves as contracted in-house counsel for small practices, home health agencies, and medical centers. In addition to her health law practice, Shakeba services as an administrative hearing adjudicator for several state agencies presiding over hearings related to licensure/certification, nursing home discharges, and public health safety. Shakeba is certified by the Health Care Compliance Association in in healthcare compliance (CHC) and healthcare privacy compliance (CHPC). Shakeba earned a BS in Health Care Management from The University of Alabama, a Master of Health Services Administration and an MBA from Arizona State University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law where she is an adjunct professor.
