Mridula (Mithu) P. Sherin is a patent agent at Mintz in the San Diego office. She specializes in strategic patent counseling and prosecution for biotechnology clients.
Dr. Sherin specializes in patent matters related to biotechnology, therapeutics, diagnostics and green technology. Her practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, freedom to operate analysis, and intellectual property due diligence. She works closely with clients to develop and implement strategies for protecting and monetizing intellectual property assets. Dr. Sherin has experience with a variety of technology sectors including cellular and molecular biology, immunology, medical therapeutics, diagnostics, drug formulations, drug delivery systems and clean technologies.
Dr. Sherin has extensive experience in assisting small and mid-size companies align their IP strategies with business development efforts in the fields of nutraceuticals such as omega-3, cosmeceuticals such as stem cell growth factor skin creams, and ecotech including low cost biodiesel systems, natural pesticides,and agriculture waste stream utilization.
Prior to joining Cooley, Dr. Sherin was a director for a small consulting firm in San Diego, where she gained considerable experience in a variety of IP and business development matters. This work included preparing patent applications, business plans and fundraising materials as well as advising clients on overall IP strategy. She also worked as an IP Manager for a Florida-based business development incubator.
Dr. Sherin earned her Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics from the University of California Los Angeles in 2004. Her doctoral research examined the role of protein-peptide interactions in bacterial cell signaling. In 1997, she received her B.S. in animal physiology/neuroscience from the University of California San Diego.
Dr. Sherin is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
