Máximo Escobedo teaches Introduction to Design
and Design II: Information Design
for the Communication Design
He is an accomplished designer with nearly 30 years of professional experience. He studied graphic design at San Diego State University and is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a degree in Graphics and Packaging Design. His work has been recognized by numerous local and national organizations, such as the American Institute of Graphics Arts (AIGA), Ad Club, Communications Arts, Behance, LogoLounge, Step by Step 100, and Print Regional Design Annual.
After practicing the design trade at ever increasing levels of responsibility and leadership at large corporations, small boutique design studios, and all in between, his most recent in-house role was at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, CA. There he provided art direction to a group of talented creative professionals and produced InsideSalk
magazine, which received numerous awards including Addy's, Folio, and UCDA.
Máximo has since founded Maximo Creative Communications (previously Maximo, Inc.), a San Diego-based, full-service, creative studio that provides branding, graphic design and communications solutions for print, event, packaging, environment and new media projects for a wide variety of clients, including major brands like Hewlett-Packard, Qualcomm Corporation, Kinko’s, Gateway Computers, Harcourt Publishing, and Pony International.
A lifelong supporter of, diversity in design, Máximo volunteers for, and works with, many educational organizations and non-profits, including the Mexican and American Foundation, East Region Adult Education, Legal Aid Society, Chicano Federation, La Cuna, MANA, Access to Independence, Kyoto Symposium, and the San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He is also a founding alumnus and national spokesperson for AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), an internationally recognized education initiative designed to help underserved students achieve a university degree. His interviews on behalf of AVID have appeared on CNN, Time Magazine, 60 Minutes, regional and local news outlets.
A longtime member of the board of directors of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (San Diego Chapter) with an intimate familiarity with cultures both north and south of the border, Máximo founded and chaired the International Relations committee in order to establish dialogue and collaboration with the creative communities across the border in México.
Máximo currently teaches graphic design at UC San Diego Extension.
