How long does it take to complete this program?

To earn the Professional Certificate in Human Resource Management, you must successfully complete 8 courses. If you took one class every quarter consecutively, then it would take you 8 quarters (or 24 months) to complete the certificate. On the other hand, many students take more than one course per quarter, and complete the program sooner than the usual 24 months. Keep in mind that students have up to five years to complete all certificate requirements.

Do I need to complete the prerequisite course first?

Yes, all certificate student must successfully the complete prerequisite course, Managing HR: An Overview, prior to enrolling in the other required courses. You may not take this course concurrently with another advanced HR course.

Can I take more than one course at a time?

After you’ve completed the prerequisite course, you may take more than one course at a time if your schedule permits it. You may even take online courses and in-class courses concurrently if you wish.

How are online courses formatted?

Online classes are held asynchronously, which means class sessions are not held live and you do not need to login at particular days or times. Instead, students will be required to complete assignments, participate in discussion board forums, and review lecture recordings at their own pace each week on Canvas, which is our online learning management system.

Will this program prepare me for a certification exam, such as the PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP?

While our program does not directly lead to earning an HR certification, such as PHR , SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP, this program can help you prepare for the certification exam by building on the foundations of HR. For more information about HR certification testing and eligibility requirements, visit HCRI or SHRM.
