Effective performance management maximizes employee talent and creativity while supporting retention, development, reward, and motivation. This course teaches students to leverage technology, AI and emerging theories to help managers design systems and practices that engage employees and optimize performance in complex, multi-generational, and evolving workplaces. 

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, students will:

  • Analyze and explain the business case and return on investment (ROI) for performance management within an organization
  • Evaluate and apply strategies for improving performance and their impact on human behavior across dynamic workplace settings (in-person, remote, hybrid)
  • Align and integrate performance management practices within an organization’s overall talent philosophy
  • Design, implement, and assess an effective, equitable performance management system that fosters an inclusive culture
  • Translate and apply organizational strategy and goals into measurable individual performance objectives

Andrea Summers
Andi has over a decade of experience in leveraging learning and engagement to achieve
breakthrough results.

She is a values-driven leader with strategic, operational, and tactical HR experience. Her areas of expertise include leadership development programming and facilitation, defining organizational mission, vision, and values, creative evaluation approaches for measuring impact, and organization/culture assessment and design. Currently the Head of People & Culture for a clean technology company, Palmetto, and formerly the Chief People Officer of NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School).

An area of passion and distinct subject matter expertise for Andi is the creation, maintenance, and sustainability of remote or virtual communities. She has published articles on the topic in the International Journal of e-Collaboration as well as for Fast Co. and the American Management Association.

Committed to enabling change through emerging leaders and with a degree in nonprofit communication, Andi has served several organizations in a pro bono capacity, most notably acting as the Executive Director of the Board for My Kaleidoscope Project.

Andi is known for her authentic leadership and genuine desire to invest in equitable, ethical, transformative causes and organizations.
