Scene Study Acting Class

This 4-week acting class is designed to give actors practical experience in scene study, character development, identifying motivations and objectives within a scene, and gaining a practical understanding of stage movement and basic blocking. Participants will work on a single scene with one or two scene partners throughout the course (preferably a two-person scene). The focus of this class is on the acting process rather than creating a polished performance. Through rehearsal, character analysis, and direction, actors will develop tools and techniques they can apply to future roles and productions.

Class Notes:
  • Participants should plan to attend all four classes. Rehearsals outside of class may be required.
  • Please email Lynn Smith at lysmith.8487@gmail.com if you intend to participate and if you plan to memorize your scene. This will allow scenes to be selected and assigned prior to the first class.
  • Participants are also welcome to select their own scene and scene partner(s) if they prefer. Scenes should be no longer than fifteen minutes. Please notify Lynn Smith before the first class if you plan to bring your own scene.
  • Scenes may be fully memorized or read from scripts; this decision is up to each actor and their scene partners.
  • After the final class there will be an informal presentation of scenes for friends and family.
  • Props, and costumes will be kept to a minimum to maintain the focus on the acting process and scene work.
