Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The History of the UC Natural Reserve System

Speaker Kellie Uyeda, Ph.D.
Coordinator Jeanie Scott
The University of California Natural Reserve System serves as a library of ecosystems to support university-level teaching, research, and public service. Across California, 42 reserves are managed by nine campuses. UC San Diego cares for four of these reserves, all located within San Diego County. The Scripps Coastal Reserve in La Jolla, Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay, Elliott Chaparral Reserve in Scripps Ranch, and Dawson-Los Monos Canyon Reserve in Vista each serve to protect unique habitats and have served as the sites for important research studies. This lecture will explore the natural and scientific history of each of these beautiful reserves. It is also a preview of the Osher walking tour on The Scripps Coastal Reserve on Friday, May 2 at 10:00. a.m. Registration and details will be provided later in April.
