The Global Challenge of Sustainable Land Use

Speaker Professor Gordon McCord
Coordinator Steve Clarey
Food and land-use systems are being managed unsustainably; they are responsible for about one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions and unprecedented loss of biodiversity and forest cover. A collaborative modeling approach across 20 national country teams has helped generate pathways toward sustainability by mid-century. To meet this challenge, tremendous efforts will be needed in dietary change, increasing agricultural productivity, expanding protected areas, and improving our soil management, fertilizer and water use.
