Speaker
Eileen Coblens
The Osher Book Club will meet again this spring
to discuss a fascinating novel by Vietnamese poet
Nguyen Phan Que Mai, The Mountain Sings. Called
by critics “moving and riveting,” the novel tells the
story of a multigenerational family caught up in the
horrific events of the Communist rise to power in
the 1930s and eventually the war with the United
States that we know as the Vietnam War. In vivid and
gripping language grandmother and granddaughter
recount the tragic story of 20th century Vietnam
from the time the family is forced to flee their farm to
the 1970s, when several adult family members must
march off down the Ho Chi Min Trail to fight for their
country. Please plan to join us on Thursday, May 8 at
10 a.m. to discuss this beautifully written book.
