Friday at the Movies

Coordinator Andy Friedenberg
Osher is pleased to screen movies on selected Friday
mornings during the spring quarter. The movies will
be screened in classroom 350 and will be on campus
only. Films selected will vary from foreign language
films introduced by Osher favorite Andy Friedenberg,
Founder of the San Diego Cinema Society, to others
selected by our Osher colleagues.

April 11: The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks
Around the Corner
(Bulgaria, 110 minutes)


This sweet intergenerational drama about an
amnesiac helped toward recovery by his charismatic
grandfather encompasses over 30 years of social and
identity crises, with backgammon as a metaphor for
life. In Bulgarian, German, Italian, Slovenian, English
and Hungarian with English Subtitles.

May 16: My Sailor, My Love (Ireland, Finland,
103 minutes)


A retired sea captain and his daughter must reassess
their strained relationship after he begins a new
romance with a widowed housekeeper. From the
award-winning director of One Last Deal, Mother of
Mine and The Fencer and My Sailor, My Love (filmed
in Ireland) is Finnish director Klaus Haro’s latest film
and his very first in English. It also represents his most
honest and affecting personal drama.
