UC San Diego URBAN and FONT to Present First-Ever Festival of New Trumpet Music West

From January 20-27, UC San Diego URBAN and Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT Music) will host The Festival of New Trumpet Music West (FONT West), featuring the eclectic sounds of jazz interpreted through the lens of New Orleans, electronic, and Mariachi influences.

For the past 16 years, New York City-based FONT Music has presented an ambitious annual program of concerts and educational events committed to the support of new music by a diverse community of trumpet and brass players.  To share their work with an even greater audience, accomplished trumpeter Stephanie Richards (a principal organizer of FONT Music and faculty member of the UC San Diego Department of Music) and Dan Atkinson (UC San Diego URBAN) are bringing the beloved festival to the West Coast.

“As working trumpet players, we’re delighted to introduce the San Diego community to the unique and mesmerizing sounds of our instruments,” said Richards.  “FONT West gives us a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with fellow musicians and composers to produce some truly remarkable music.”

The first-ever edition of FONT West, the eight-day music celebration reflects the collaboration of leading arts organizations including the Athenaeum, UC San Diego Department of Music, Fresh Sound, San Diego Symphony, and UC San Diego URBAN.

The Festival of New Trumpet Music West finale event will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 27 at Quartyard, 1301 Market Street, San Diego, CA  92101.

Tickets to the January 27 event are free to the general public.  For tickets or more information, visit www.fontmusic.org/fontwest.
