Offered in partnership between the UC San Diego Rady School of Management and the Division of Extended Studies, the MicroMBA program provides graduate students and professionals with STEM backgrounds a unique opportunity to gain exposure to key business concepts such as operational strategy, finance, analytics, entrepreneurship, and more - grounded in the scientific approach to business that defines the Rady School.

You will be introduced to world class researchers who will serve as your instructors, become immersed in our quantitative STEM-designated coursework, learn alongside like-minded peers and build your network.

The MicroMBA is a seven-week program, with each course offering a glimpse into the full MBA program at the Rady School of Management. The courses will be held online via ZOOM with select in-person networking opportunities available, but not mandatory.

Attendance Policy
Students must attend 10 of the 13 total sessions and two coffee chats in order to receive a certificate of completion. There will be no grades, but attendance is tracked. 

Upon successful completion of the MicroMBA program, students will receive a verifiable digital credential. The digital credential (badge) may be shared on social media, with colleagues and/or employers in recognition of the achievement. In addition, official university transcripts are available upon request to verify participation in the MicroMBA program.

Additionally, we will host networking events called “coffee chats.” These are conducted at different times throughout the program and will feature prominent executives, entrepreneurs and other business professionals from the San Diego region who you will be able to connect with directly in an informal setting. Students must attend a minimum of two coffee chats, but we strongly encourage attedning as many as possible. The Coffee Chats will be both online and in person.

The cost of this 7-week program is $1500.  Students and postdoctoral scholars, along with UC San Diego affiliates, are able to attend at a reduced rate:

  • UC San Diego graduate students and postdoctoral scholars: $350 (note, students graduating in June 2025 are still eligible for the student rate)
  • UC San Diego affiliates who are not matriculated students/postdoctoral scholars: $525 (note, this includes alumni and researchers associated with key San Diego Mesa collaborators: Craig Venter Institute, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Sanford Burnham Prebys, and Scripps Research) 
  • Non-UC San Diego graduate students and postdoctoral scholars: $525

Wendy Barker

Wendy Hunter Barker is an accomplished executive leader with 25 years of experience in strategic planning, institutional administration, and programmatic management within higher education. She is known for driving organizational success through mission-focused leadership, innovative initiatives, and her deep commitment to enhancing university culture through diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Adept at building cross-functional teams, forging strategic partnerships, and enhancing institutional reputation, Hunter Barker is currently the Assistant Dean of Strategic Operations and External Relations at the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego.  In this role, Wendy provides leadership, risk analysis, and experienced planning related to academic, operational, and strategic dimensions of operating the Rady School. Her portfolio includes oversight of strategic planning, marketing and communications, executive education, corporate relations, event management, the centers of excellence, accreditation and equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.  She is a key leader on policy and process mapping, campus collaboration creation, and represented the school as one of four Change Leaders co-directing the UC San Diego Changemaker Institute from 2021-2024.

Prior to joining Rady in 2020, Wendy served for nearly seven years as the assistant dean for Academic Programs at UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy. She began her time at UC San Diego with a 14-year term at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) where she served in a number of roles including international relations coordinator, internal communications manager for the Vice Chancellor, deputy director for finance and operations, and finally director of Institutional Initiatives.   At SIO, her portfolio also included alumni relations, business development, external relations coordination, international relations, and institutional proposal development.

Wendy received her BA with honors in political science and international relations from UCLA and a Masters in international peace and conflict resolution from American University in Washington, D.C.  She is currently finishing an MBA at the Rady School of Management.

Vish Krishnan
Vish Krishnan

Ph.D from MIT, MS from Carnegie Mellon University, and Bachelor of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

Professor Vish Krishnan holds the Jacobs Chair in Engineering and Management at the University of California, and is a faculty affiliate at the Harvard Business School’s Laboratory for Innovation Science. Prof. Krishnan holds a PhD from MIT and has co- authored some of the most cited articles on the topics of product management and growth strategy. An accomplished scholar and a 5-time winner of the Most Valuable Professor award with substantial industry and entrepreneurial experience, he leads a number of entrepreneurial initiatives at UC San Diego. Professor Krishnan has served in editorial positions at the top journals in the areas of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Operations Management. He works with senior leadership and management development programs at major Fortune 100 companies.
